PhD Studentships

Funded Positions

Fully funded studentships will be advertised here - funding may still need to be secured as part of a competitive internal process. These are competitive positions linked to specific research opportunities and grants.

There are currently no fully funded vacancies. Please check back here regularly.

Open Call & Self-Funded Projects

We invite applications from candidates who have their own funding or intend to apply for scholarships. Below are examples of Open Call projects that ChemTech are interested in supporting. Please check our Research page for more context.

Project 1: Self-Driving Labs for Drug Discovery

Develop autonomous agents that plan and execute experiments to discover new drug candidates. This project involves integrating robotic platforms with machine learning algorithms, high-throughput synthesis tools and analytical instrumentation.

Project 2: Machine learning for process understanding

Develop machine learning models to understand and predict chemical processes. This project involves integrating high-throughput experimental data with machine learning models to optimize reaction conditions and improve process efficiency.

Project 3: High-throughput drug design, synthesis and purification

Develop AI models to design drug molecules, as well as novel reactor platforms to synthesise and purify them. The aim is to reduce the time and costs associated with early-stage drug discovery, and accelerate the development of new medicines.

Project 4: Novel reactor technologies for sustainable chemistry

Design, construct and operate novel reactor platforms to enable more sustainable pharmaceutical manufacturing. This utilises expertise from across the ChemTech group, including flow chemistry, 3D printing in resin and metal, process analytical technology, and machine learning.

Fellowships & Collaborations

We are highly open to collaborations and hosting researchers who wish to apply for their own funding (e.g., Marie Curie, Newton Fellowships). We are always happy to discuss research proposals and support applications for funding. We host world-leading facilities for flow chemistry, novel reactor development, self-driving laboratories, additive manufacturing and more.
